After my last foray into using Word Press, I had the worst migraine of my life. Now looking at the site again, I feel another encroaching.
Perhaps it is the low contrast of the colour scheme that is a large part of my instinctual vehement dislike of the Word Press blogging platform – a simple matter of the body instinctively protecting itself from danger.
According to studies, of attractiveness, the brain does not like to tax itself. Access keys.org determines the usability of a site.
One major area determining the usability of a site is the contrast between background and foreground. Here is the explanation from their site:
“Color brightness formula
To conform with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0, foreground and background color combinations should provide sufficient contrast when viewed by someone with low vision or colour blindness, or when viewed on a black and white screen.
The formula suggested by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to determine the brightness of a colour is:
((Red value X 299) + (Green value X 587) + (Blue value X 114)) / 1000
Two colours provide good colour visibility if the brightness difference is greater then 125 and the color difference is greater then 500.”
Why should this matter to WordPress? With an aging population, the number of people experiencing vision impairment is steadily increasing. Word Press: you need to institute a new improved dash board with higher contrast- stow your corked wine attitude and emphasis on “aesthetics” , or you will soon find more people migrating to the high contrast blogger platform.
Got to run before this migraine sets in. My next blog will be created via Windows Live Writer.
